FINALS WEEKEND

Despite the weather turning a bit chilly we managed to hold a very enjoyable COVID 19 Finals weekend. Our hardy bowlers and spectators were treated to some excellent competitive bowls on a green, that despite having slowed a bit due to recent rain, bowled well and true. (well done the green keepers).

For all the results see the COVID 19 Competitions sub page - Finals Weekend 2020

The stand out performer was Veronica who deservedly won the COVID 19 Bowl, the Fixed Jack Yardstick and the Pairs Scramble. She also came out winner in the new fun event "Corner to Corner". She did fail to win the Spider and the Raffle!!! Many congratulations Veronica on an excellent display of controlled bowls.

Norman made it through to 3 finals which he was in on merit having been one of the standout bowlers this season. Sadly, he was runner up in each despite some great bowls - Next year Norman!!

Paul beat Kim in a competitive mixed singles final (which became a battle of the long jacks) and he then managed to knock Kim's bowl into the ditch from a leading position in the Corner to Corner!! So not diplomatic!

Barbara came through with Paul to beat Norman and Mike in the Drawn Pairs in an extra end after the scores were tied 10-10. Well done Barbara who only began playing bowls last year.

Our 2 special COVID competitions - Pairs Scramble and the Fixed Jack Yardstick were popular and may well be repeated next year.

MASSIVE thank you to Paul who organised and ran the competitions and the Finals Weekend (including the BBQ) Finally thank you to all who entered and made these COVID competitions such a success.

What now with just over 3 weeks to go of the 2020 season

3 friendly matches are taking place against: Headcorn, Westborough and Staplecross. All subject to COVID 19 guidelines. For details and information see the Friendly Games page. 20+ have put their names down to play and it is intended that everyone will get to play in at least one of the games. Paul and Denise are finalising the selections to try to ensure we get balanced triples and pairs. The teams selected will go up on the Selected Games page by Tuesday Evening.

Great to have some friendlies against other clubs even if they won't be quite normal - no teas!!

Friendly matches within the Club - it is hoped to play at least 2 friendly games over the coming weeks to give us all a chance to practise triples ready for next season. Details of the dates and selections will come out shortly.

End of season tournament - Thursday 24th September - This will include a Corner to Corner event after the success of the inaugural one held during finals weekend. Please put the date in your diary and await further details.

Club Roll Ups on Thursday Afternoons 2pm to 6pm - please do come along for a roll up but remember that you need to book
