Last Month of 2019 Season
Biddenden Bowls Club
As we move into September let's enjoy the last weeks of the 2019 season. We have 9 friendly matches left and 3 Thursdays for rollups plus the fun tournament. Hopefully the sun will continue to shine so that we can all get out and play.
End of Season Fun Tournament - Thursday 26th September 12.30 for 1pm
Come along for a last bowl of the 2019 season by playing in this fun pairs tournament. All players will play 4 or 5 games of 5 ends with 3 bowls. In each game you will have a different partner as you move between the rinks. The winner will be the player with the highest overall shot difference.
To help us all enjoy this final gathering at the green, “nibbles” or biscuits will be provided, along with tea and coffee but please bring along your own preferred tipple!! There will be a little prize giving at the end of the afternoon.
Please put you name down on the list at the clubhouse or let me know if you would like to play. The more the merrier.

ps we are hoping that the OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE NEW TOILET BLOCK will take place during the afternoon!!!
AGM - Wednesday 27th November 7pm - Please put this date in your diary as it is really important that as many members as possible come along to elect the new committee and discuss and agree plans and arrangements for next season. A nominations list is up in the club house for the committee. There are still gaps and please bear in mind that more than one person can stand for each position. It is vital that new people come onto the committee to ensure it represents the broader membership and helps the club continue to develop and flourish.
Finals Weekend - Our club tournament and competition finals were played in the hot weather last weekend with essential shade/water breaks built in. Well done to all those who took part and to the spectators/supporters who came along including members not themselves playing in any of the finals and social members. The weekend finished with a BBQ with over 40 attending and entertainment provided by our very own Ukulele Group. Thanks to Paul and Ralph for running the BBQ and all who brought along salads and desserts. The finals results are on the Competitions page on the website.
Presentation Lunch - Sunday 10th November - The sign up sheet and menu options are up on the club notice board. This is an enjoyable social get together for all playing and social members when we can catch up, chat over the season and our plans for the winter (both club and personal!) It includes the presentations for the 2019 Club Competitions.
Quiz night 26th October 7pm - This is an important fund raiser for the club especially needed this year as we need to spend to enhance security at the green. It's also a good laugh as we all try to beat Laurie and Maggie's table!! Please try to get a table together with friends, family or other members.
Green and Surrounds Maintenance - It has been good to see many regulars coming along on Tuesday mornings as well as others who come along when they can. As we approach the end of the season the team are planning the Autumn renovation activities and in particular how we "win the fight" with the Crane Fly who have done so much damage to the grass this year. Additional help is likely to be needed at the end of September/Early October. More details will come out shortly.
BRUSHING - every morning the green has to be brushed unless it is frosty, pouring with rain or snow covered. This protects the grass and is a very important task. Currently we have a gap on the brushing rota on Friday mornings and we could also do with extra volunteers to cover due to holidays, illness etc. Brushing takes about 45 minutes to an hour and new volunteers will be fully briefed on what is needed. If you feel you can help, either covering Fridays or adding your name to the reserve list, then please let Jim or Paul know.
