Just back from Club Afternoon at the green. Reinforced why I love bowls and our club.

In no particular order:

  • Not quite sunny but not cold or raining and what great company and what a range of activities going on.
  • Biddenden Bowl first round singles match played - with one bowler playing in a club championship for the first time.
  • Ladies Day planning team meeting being held to organise “8th August” which now has the full 24 triples entered with one spare
  • 4 bowlers practising skills and then playing a great game of pairs
  • Friendly chat and catch up with friends who have been away or I hadn't seen for a while
  • Paul busy working (again) on the new slope ably assisted by an enthusiastic robin and not a squirrel in sight!!
  • Great friendly match yesterday at home v a really strong Westborough team. Lost by 6 shots but won on 2 rinks and narrowly lost on 2.
  • The bank is looking brilliant
  • Junior activities well underway with junior section meeting on Sunday mornings and 2 junior school year 6 classes coming along on Mondays/Tuesdays for the next 3 weeks.
  • Green treated with Caviar (!) on Saturday and whilst it caused a few brown hands, bowls and shoes this should really give the grass a boost.
  • League teams have all made a good start despite rainy Tuesdays!!
  • Still missing a few members who have not yet been up for a bowl or not at green very often BUT hope to see them all again very soon.
  • Seeing more names going up for friendlies which is great!
  • Went on a Coach Bowls level 2 course at Falcon Bowls Club in Essex weekend before last to support the tutor. Whilst I might have caught COVID there (!) it was a great refresher and real inspiration to do some more coaching for new bowlers and those looking to improve delivery action, range of shots and game strategy. Remember What happens on the mat determines if your bowls finish where you intended and with the desired result. Coaching sessions are free and if you would like to sign up for one or a series just get in touch with me or Ken – can be Thursday afternoons/evenings or can often be on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon or over the weekend.

A few other bits

Thursday afternoon club afternoons – Members are asked to pay £1 to cover the afternoon and enjoy a tea/coffee and biscuit. Box in the clubhouse.

Bowls Bash Evening for members and others – 27th June 2024 6 to 7.30 (practice ends and briefing from 5.30). This is the bowls version of Crickets T20 . Bring a snack and beverage of your choice. We are going to invite some local groups to get some new people along to find out about bowls and our great club. Format will probably be pairs but also works with triples. Please come along and enjoy. Get yourself a team of 2 4 or 6 and take on the others (members, friends, family).. It this is a success it can be repeated over the summer - really good for bowlers to get game experience in a quick fire format ideal for those where time is precious.
