22nd April 2021 2pm - the green opens for bowling

COVID guidelines will apply much as they did last season but the great news is that we can get back together to play at Biddenden Bowls Club. Please see the news letter being issued concurrently setting out the processes/procedures which will be in place including a booking system.

CHAIRMANS WELCOME 2021

A “warm” welcome to the beginning of the new bowls season to all new and returning members of our club and I thank you for your continued support, it is much valued.

This is always an exciting time of the year, with hopes of success for the year ahead. Success means different things to different people, maybe team goals, promotion or staying in a particular league.

For others it may be a personal aim, including just getting back onto the green and meeting friends. No matter how you view or define success, we are one club and I hope we can all support and encourage one another as we cautiously embark on the journey ahead.

It would be lovely to see a busy clubhouse in April and to socialise with the opposition, but we need to ensure we play within the latest Government Covid Guidelines and recognise it may be a little while before this comes to fruition.

The club is forever reliant on volunteers, without them we simply cannot exist. We are always on the lookout for more people to help out, so no matter how big or small a contribution you think you can make, please do not hesitate to speak to one of the committee or pop down on a Tuesday morning and speak to the work/maintenance team to find out more. Remember, new faces bring fresh ideas and if we are to achieve our objectives, we need you on board.

Finally, I wish everyone good luck, a successful season, and I look forward to seeing you down at the green.

Kind regards

Jeannette

Update from Competitions Secretary, Sue J

Hopefully you have seen my email of 5th April confirming that we will be holding the 3 club championships and the Biddenden Bowl as normal this year. All 4 of these competitions are played as knockouts from May onwards, leading up to the finals weekend on the 25th & 26th August.

For more information about the competitions please see the Competitions/Knockout page. I would like to specifically mention the Biddenden Bowl which I will be entering for the first time this year!! This competition is open to any full member who has NEVER won a club singles competition either at Biddenden or another bowls club. This is an excellent competition for newer bowlers, those who have not bowled a lot of singles and those who have been playing for a while but have never won a singles competition. (this excludes any of the special 2020 COVID events).

Could you please let me know, no later than Friday 23rd April, which of these competitions you would like to enter. You can email, phone or talk to me at the first roll up afternoon on Thursday 22nd April. (Telephone number 07554004717 and 01580291918) The draws will be made on the 29th April.

I know some of you will be wondering what is happening to the One Day competitions e.g. drawn pairs, We are hoping to hold as many of these as possible but are waiting to see how the COVID restrictions change and how people are feeling when they get back bowling. Watch this space!!

Update from Captain Paul and Vice Captain Norman

Really looking forward to seeing lots of you at the green on or soon after 22nd April 2021. The opening day will be our normal club roll up from 2pm onwards. Just a reminder that our first friendly match is on 1st May at home against Staplecross. Availability sheets will be posted at the club house (outside) on Monday 12th April. You can add your name to the sheets or you can email biddendenbc.captain@gmail.com or let me know on 22nd April. More matches quickly follow and all will be restricted to 4 triples at least until the middle May. The dates/details of all the friendly fixtures are on the website.

Update from Linda, Membership Secretary

Thank you to everyone who has renewed their membership so promptly. Your membership card will be distributed over the coming weeks.
