Summer 2020 - what is going on?

34 members have been along to bowl as well as 50+ children aged 6 to 13, 3 coaches from Sports Route Coaching and 2 "granddaughters" (Annabel and Rachel who have been helping out with the summer school.) The green is being mowed every 3 days and continues to be brushed in the mornings, the accessible toilet, chairs and surfaces are being cleaned every 3 days and watering of the green, plants and new seeded area is taking place. Covid 19 competitions have been going really well and our second ladies' afternoon took place with a bit of bowls, a glass of Pimm’s and homemade nibbles and cakes.

Not a normal summer but still a positive one for the club. We miss our members who have been shielding but hope that we can catch up before the end of the season.

COVID guidelines Update

Bowls England issued updated guidelines on 31st July and a copy of the new guidance is on the COVID 19 Guidance Page. Most practices at the club remain unchanged with sanitisation, social distancing and use of equipment such as jacks, mats and pushers the same.

The main changes agreed at the committee meeting yesterday taking into account the Bowls England guidance are as follows:

A maximum of 30 people can be present at the green at any one time including any players, spectators, markers or coaches.

Distinct groups of no more than 6 people with 2m social distancing must be adhered to. Separate seating areas around the green and surrounds are in place to facilitate this.

Booking - All people attending the green still need to prebook to ensure that numbers are controlled and we have records for Test and Trace if needed.

Triples may be played but bowlers must be very mindful of maintaining 2m social distancing.

Rinks - 4 rinks may be in use but at least a half rink gap will be maintained between rinks being used

Friendly Matches against other clubs or in house

3 matches have now been arranged for September with full details and an availability form on the Friendly Matches Page. Big thank you to David, our fixtures secretary, for his perseverance over the season which has allowed this to happen.

VHSC - Village Halls and Sports Committee.

As a club we are entitled to nominate a member to be our representative on the VHSC. Brian has done this for over 7 years but is now standing down. It is very important that we have a representative member to ensure that our voice is heard on the committee and to help the committee represent the diverse groups in the village. The AGM is on the 16th September and we need to nominate our representative by 2nd September. The committee meets approximately 4 times a year and whilst as a committee member/trustee you have important responsibilities the work load for representative members is not an onerous one. If you think you might be willing to put your name forward and would like to know more please speak to Jeannette or Brian.

Sue J's Kitchen

Sue is continuing to bake and has already raised over £100 for the club. Her coffee and walnut cake, bread puddings, Weetabix cake, and banana cake have all proved very popular. Have a look at her page on the website!!

Club Roll up Afternoons

Club roll up afternoons are starting on Thursday 27th August for the remainder of the season. We know that a lot of members have missed the informality of these afternoons with the chance to come along and roll up. Dress code remains casual for these. Please remember though that you will still need to pre book in line with COVID guidance.

Let's Roll Initiative & Family Fun Taster Afternoons

We are hosting taster sessions on 26th August 4.30pm to 6pm and 5th September 2pm to 4pm. We are hoping to welcome new bowlers of all ages, including some youngsters who have been along to the summer club. We are happy to arrange one off taster sessions as well. So please invite friends and family to come along. See our Come Along for a Roll UP page for more information.
