IN HOUSE MIXED TRIPLES MATCHES 5th and 8th MAY

Sadly, some of our early season friendly matches have been cancelled by the opposition clubs however our opening game against Staplecross is definitely on!! To fill some of the gaps I am planning to hold two “In House” matches on the 5th and 8th May. There were quite a few people’s names up for the cancelled games so I am very hopeful there will be plenty of members wanting to play. I have put new sign-up sheets at the Club or you can use the form on the website or email me at biddendenbc.captain@gmail.com No match fee will be payable for these 2 games.

CLUB COMPETITIONS

As you know from Sue J’s email, the draw for the “season long” knockout Championships will be held on the 29th April (during our Club afternoon) If you have not got your name down yet, please get your entries into Sue J by email/whatsap or see her at the green on 22nd April.

“DRAWN TRIPLES” Saturday 15th MAY

The plans for our “one day” club competitions are being kept under review whilst the government updates restrictions and we get a feel as to how things are going at the club. Current guidelines allow up to 24 bowlers on the green and we can have available 4 rinks of play with half a rink gap between each during May.

In the circumstances we believe that the DRAWN TRIPLES event can be held safely on Saturday 15th May starting at 10am. This is a competition suitable for all bowlers, including our newest members as each triple will have a wide range of experience. The competition will be on a “round robin” basis ensuring all players get a minimum of 2 games, with the top two teams playing a final during the club finals weekend. Depending on numbers, the games should finish by mid afternoon so don't forget to bring along some lunch/drinks.

Please get you names down on the sheet at the club or email Paul at biddendenbc.captain@gmail.com if you would like to play. Fee to play is £3 (this will be offset against any competition fees paid for 2020) If you want any further information or detail don’t hesitate to talk to Paul or see the Competitions/Single Day Competitions page. (PS Sue J will be away on the 15th and so Paul is organising this competition.)

VOLUNTEERS

Please see the new volunteers page on the website. This will have the up to date cleaning and mowing rotas as well as the “tea schedule” in due course.

Much has been done already to ensure the green, surrounds and club facilities are ready for the start of the season on Thursday 22 April. Big thank you to all those who have been involved and please please continue to be available to help both now and for the rest of the season/ year.

WATERING is and will continue to be a challenge and help is needed to irrigate the green at times throughout the week with the hand-held spray or overseeing/moving the sprinkler. The areas of “localised dry patch” and the bits missed by the main irrigation system will have to be watered. Additionally, now that the “bank” has quite a lot of new plants it would be good if someone could volunteer to ensure it is watered regularly, as needed. Please let Paul or Jim know if you can help either with the green or the bank. (You will be properly briefed as to what is needed if you are on the green watering team!!).
