Several bits of news which I wanted to share with all members.

New Toilet Block

The construction phase of building the new toilet block has begun today. The first pegs have gone in and we should see real progress over the coming days.

The green and Crane Flies

Not quite such good news is that the green is currently plagued by Crane Fly (Daddy Long Leg) grubs. Unfortunately they get into the green and attack the grass roots. The bare patches you will have noticed at the green are due to this. The greenkeeping team (Jim, Paul, Kev, Brian, Norman and Ashley) are really frustrated as they have been putting in an enormous amount of work to improve the quality of the grass and green generally as they did right throught the winter. Just a few weeks ago the grass was looking good and bowling so well. It is possible for nemotodes to be used in the Autumn (at a cost!) but in the meantime continuing to treat the green (spiking, mowing, rolling, applying "compost tea" and wetting agents, verticutting etc) and pick up the "little Beasties" is really all that can be done. PLEASE be sympathetic with the green keepers - moaning does not help them - they really are already frustrated enough!

Village Challenge

14th July 10am to 12.30pm we will be hosting some members of the Biddenden Squash and Football Clubs who are coming along for a bowls challenge. This is a trial event for a potentially bigger village get together next year. Friendly games will be organised after the visitors have been given a quick induction/training session. Format to be decided but likely that rinks (4s) and pairs will take place. We need as many club members as possible to come along to play and/or help organise the morning. After the games a BBQ will take place with drinks available to buy through the squash club. There is a notice at the club house but please let me know if you are able to come along to what we hope will be another opportunity to develop our ties with the village and have a good time.
