FUN TOURNAMENT and COVID 19 COMPETITIONS PRESENTATION 26th September 2020

It was breezy, cool and with the odd rain shower, however 25 members came along and a very successful tournament and presentations ceremony took place.

Opening Corner to Corner - 21 entrants took park with Shirley and Hugh bowling amazing bowls to within a metre of the corner in the first elimination round but Ray came through in the final bowl off to win the competition.

The fun tournament

20 players took part, with Paul, Jeannette and Pat keeping score and keeping things moving. Each player was either a Red or a Blue and always partnered someone from the opposite colour. Each had 4 games of 5 ends moving up a rink when winning and staying put when losing. 3 stayed on the same rinks for 4 games!! Rink 1 was again an offender!! It was cold and hot tea and coffee were very welcome!!

The result was close with the best red being David on + 6 but the blues dominated the top places with Hugh coming third with + 9, Elaine with + 15 and Kim with +19. The blues also had the last 3 places with -11, -14 and -16!!! So not sure the colours meant too much!!

It was great that Shirley, Carl and Joy, who all joined the club having enjoyed one of our taster days took part and played really well with Joy winning 2 and tying one. They finished on 0, +1 and +3 respectively!! We look forward to seeing them play at and for the club next year.

Presentations of special COVID 19 medals

Paul and Jeannette presented the special edition medals in a suitably socially distance manner!!

Short Jack Yardstick - Winner Veronica, runner up David

Drawn Pairs - Winners Barbara/Paul, runners up Norman/Mike

COVID Bowl - Winner Veronica, runner up Norman

Mixed Singles - Winner Paul, runner up Kim

Pairs Scramble - Winner Veronica, runners up Norman, Ralph and David

Captain's special COVID 19 awards agreed with Jeannette, our chair - A lot of members have gone the extra mile this year but special awards were made to:

COVID 19 Baker of the Year Sue J - for baking and selling her excellent products to members to raise money for the club

COVID 19 Achiever - Ashley for using his time in lockdown to create 2 sets of steps to make access to the green more accessible and much safer for all. The cost of purchasing similar steps would have been £1000+

COVID 19 Achiever - Kim for all her work in arranging for the green to open within COVID guidelines, for communications to club members through lockdown/the season and for organising the summer club for 60 + children over 14 sessions and 3 taster days resulting in 12 new members for 2020

HOT SHOTS - Certificate and badges awarded to Ralph and Martin (in absentia) for their hotshot achieved at Headcorn in the friendly pairs match on 6th September 2020 with 8 shots scored in end 5. This was Martin's first ever inter club friendly match. What a way to start!!!

A final big thank you must go to Paul who organised and ran all of the competitions and the fun tournament.

Inclusion and Accessibility

The parish council have arranged for the pathway from the carpark to the playing fields and the bowls club to be renewed. The new path is smooth and safe and will make a big difference to all those who access the green and the fields. The club made a donation towards the cost.

Good News for the winter

Our COVID 19 Baker of the Year, Sue J, is continuing her baking through the winter to provide us with tasty cakes, pastries and pies whilst raising money for club funds. Have a look at her page on our website or give her a ring/WhatsApp her to order and arrange collection/delivery.
