End of Season Update No 1
Biddenden Bowls Club
This is the first of two end of Season Newsletters and this one includes a lot of important information for the coming months. The second will be an update on the fun tournament played on the Saturday 26th September and the COVID 19 competitions presentations.
A few important updates
- Quiz Night that should have taken place next month has been cancelled!
- Presentation Lunch due to take place in November has been cancelled!
- A provisional booking has been made at the village hall for a fund raising event on 13th March 2021 - obviously COVID guidelines allowing but please put the date in your diary.
Annual General Meeting - 25th November 2020 7pm
Please see the AGM website page for more information and nomination form for officers and committee members.
COVID guidelines mean we will not be able to hold our AGM as normal in the village hall it will be held virtually through ZOOM. This is a first for us and means we will be able to draw a line under this year's activities as we would in any normal year. Holding a virtual AGM is in line with Bowls England COVID guidance and our constitution.
We want everyone to have the opportunity to join the committee and/or to support other members to do so by proposing or seconding them. To ensure that everyone has the chance to put forward their ideas and suggestions for the club and to vote on the proposals at the AGM, all the paperwork including the committee nomination forms and agenda/supporting documents will be sent to members by email and paper copies will be delivered to those who we know do not use broadband/email. Those unable to attend the ZOOM AGM will be able to pass on their comments and proxy votes.
Nominations must be received by 27th October 2020 and can be made now either by email to biddendbowlsclub@gmail.com or by using the form on the AGM webpage. to find out more about what being a committee member entails or about one of the positions please have a word with Jeannette.
Autumn/Winter Green Maintenance Programme
Now that bowling has finished for 2020 activity is starting in earnest and it is important that volunteers come forward to ensure that work, which is so essential, to maintain and improve the green, surrounds and other facilities carries on through the winter. There are many tasks to do including:
- On the green itself - the daily brushing, regular mowing, application of treatments (including Crane Fly nematodes, aeration, scarifying, weeding, watering, leaf and acorn removal - most of this goes on daily or weekly right through the winter
- the ditches - take out and clean the liners, clean the ditches, keep ditches clear of leaves
- Surrounds - mowing, trimming, slab levelling, planting, weeding, composting, leaf removal.
- Buildings - tidying, cleaning, repairs
There are jobs suitable for everyone. The regular work crew slot will be on Tuesday mornings but many of the jobs can be done on other days to suit - falling leaves and acorns have no respect for workcrew days!! Brushing takes place daily (first thing in the morning) and there are gaps in this rota. SO please come along to help look after our club and spread the load. Being part of the work crew team is a good way to get out and exercise and get some fresh air!! Talk to Paul, Norman, Jim or Brian to find out more or come along on Tuesday morning!!
County Knockouts
Details of next year's competitions have been issued by Kent Bowls so please look out for an email shortly with more information.
Classic Trophy 2020/2021 - Ashford Indoor Bowls
We have entered a team for this trophy and Ray has kindly agreed to co-ordinate. We have a squad of members who have expressed an interest in playing and so should be able to get out 4 triples for each of the games. (likely to be 3 or 4 games depending on the number of clubs who have entered). More details will come out when received but if you have not yet registered your interest but would like to play please let us know. Ray, a veteran of this event, stresses the games will be tough as we will be against a lot of indoor specialists but they will be great experience and a bit of fun!!
