The wind has died down and our power is back - hope everyone is OK and not too much damage suffered. Countdown to the new season 60 DAYS!!

PRE SEASON FAMILIARISATION SESSIONS

As promised sessions have been arranged to give members the opportunity to develop and increase their understanding of the game of Bowls. Please see the details on our website (click on the heading above) for the dates, timings and content of each of the four sessions.

The sessions will be fairly informal and can be “flexible” to cater for the group`s needs. It is particularly important that they are interactive with everyone having the opportunity to provide input and ask questions. Practical activities will be an integral part. The sessions will cover Bowls Basics, Rules and Measures, Marking and Tactics.

Please let me know which sessions you are coming along to (there is a form on the website which you can use) or if you have any questions regarding the events.

Basic First Aid Course - 28th February 10am to 3pm

The course is taking place as planned and we currently have 9 members coming along. There are a few spaces left and if you are interested please let me know. A couple of members who wanted to attend cannot make that date so maybe if it goes well, we might have a follow up at a later date. The course will be covering basic first aid including CPR and defibrillator training as well as some bowls specific topics e.g wasp stings and sun stroke. KIM

Website Update

Since the club website was set up in 2018 it has grown and evolved. It was clearly time to have a review of the layout, style, content etc. Shirley, Joy and Kim have been working on the site over recent weeks and I am sure you will notice some positive changes. Some of the headings and subpages have been amended/moved and other changes have been made to hopefully make a smoother flow to information. The website is designed to provide information to members e.g. membership forms, fixtures details, selections etc and a point of reference for visitors to the green and potential new bowlers.

Please have a look and let us have any comments, feedback or suggestions.

Water!!

Good news is that the work was completed earlier this week to rerun/replace the problem pipework. Drinking water is now restored and the supply is now much less susceptible to freezing over the winter months. No more having to carry water to the green to make tea and coffee. Big thank you to Hugh and Paul who dug out the area where the connection to existing pipework was made.

Volunteers

Linda mentioned in her membership invites that teams of volunteers are needed to help us run the club and maintain/develop our facilities both on and off the green. Our regular Tuesday morning work crew (Jim, Brian, Norman, Paul plus new "Tuesday" member Alex) continues and the green is coming along nicely for the new season although the weather has been a challenge. Great job done by Norman and Jim who have completely relaid the top path. It now runs smoothly to the balcony and looks so much better. The team of brushers (Mike, Norman/Sue J, Terry, Ralph, Barbara, Brian) continues their daily activity.

COGS (Care of Gardens Service!!) has been formed and already has 5 volunteers led by Shirley. They will look after all plant-based activities off the green including the bank. Ralph has already been seen weeding between the slabs!!

There are many other activities that we so need to be covered - if you can help, please get in touch with Jeannette or one of the committee members. Play to your strengths - cleaning, decorating, mowing, gardening, sweeping, watering, sorting/tidying, publicity etc etc. Currently a good clean of the club house is needed!!
