Presentation Evening with Fish and Chips - 22nd October 2021

What a great evening this was. 36 attended being a mix of competition winners and runners up, other members and other non playing partners (also a new member for 2022!). Shirley's surprise slide show made everyone smile (and even laugh out loud!!), the members races with tote was fun and the fish and chips very tasty. The trophies were duly awarded to the worthy winners by David. It is worth mentioning again that 17 different members competed in the various finals. Please have a look at the gallery page for a full set of pictures courtesy of Shirley photographics!!!

The Chair's trophy was awarded by Jeannette to Ashley and her wonderful tribute and Ashley's response brought a tear to the eyes of many present.

Synopsis of Jeannette’s Tribute ahead of awarding the 2021 Chairman's Cup (please note I have substituted in the winner’s name).

"Inspiration - Commitment - Initiative

It was a difficult decision to make as so many people met my criterion, but the qualities Ashley demonstrated throughout the season have truly upheld the sport of bowls in Biddenden.

Inspiration was a key characteristic - he continued to play despite being in great pain and whilst recovering from an operation, even adapting his own bowling aid to ensure full participation in the game.

Commitment to the game has been clearly evident - he has played all the games for which he was selected and in doing so, strongly upheld the etiquette of the sport of bowls. He participated in the coaching of young people at the summer school and willingly passed on his skills and knowledge.

Initiative - Ashley was a founder member of our accessibility and inclusion subcommittee. He went away and developed and made steps to assist people to access the green and a ramp to enable wheelchairs and lawn mowers to mobilise onto the green and into the storage shed. Both of these projects have enhanced the playing experience of members and visitors to the club.

I believe we have all admired Ashley’s attributes and his tenacity has been applauded by many, so, Ashley, it is with the greatest pleasure that I present you with this years Chairman's trophy and it is inspiring to see you here this evening."
