July Update

What a heatwave!! Hopefully heat will now drop to just nice summer temperatures. The green is looking good saved in part by the closure for 3 days and spot watering!! (Special thanks to Norman who got up especially early on 19th July to complete the mowing of the green before 8.30am before the temperatures quickly reached 30 degrees plus.)

Please see the concurrent newsletter containing a mid-season message from Jeannette.

We are ½ way through the 2022 season but still lots to come – here are a few dates for your diary.

11th August – Ladies Tournament

We now have the maximum of 24 triples entered which is great. Lots of help needed on the day as well as the days before as we get the green and surrounds ready. Are you able to bake a cake for our Ladies Day? There is a list of cakes needed in the clubhouse just inside the main doors. Details of the raffle and the donation of prizes and contents for the “hamper” is on display in the same place.

Whilst we call it Ladies Day, our male members have a vital role in play to make it a success!! Remember this day is a highlight for our club – great for our reputation and of course a major fund raiser. Not sure how you can help? - please contact Barbara.

30th July Yardstick Competition

Open to all members. All Day singles competition starting 9.45 for 10.00am finishing 4pm to 5pm. Final will be played over finals weekend (3rd/4th September)

6th August Handicap Competition

Open to all members. All Day singles competition starting 9.45 for 10.00am finishing 4pm to 5pm. Final will be played over finals weekend (3rd/4th September)

28th August Rearranged Inter-Generational Tournament

3rd and 4th September Finals Weekend

All the knockout and one day finals will be played over this weekend. Closing BBQ at 4ish on Sunday afternoon.

Friendly Matches

These slow down slightly in August with just 9 in the diary but please get your names down to play to allow Paul and Ralph to select balanced teams. More names are needed for Ashford Rail Away on 28th July.

New members please please give it a go. The games are fun and you will be “looked after”. New bowler, Mike S, played his first match recently against Headcorn. He has a 100% win record and one particularly spectacular end saw all three of his bowls within inches of the jack!!

Social afternoon/evening – Thursday 18th August

Details to follow – watch this space.

Summer School with Sports Route Coaching

We will be holding the following sessions and really would like some more members to come along to one or more to give a hand. If you can help out, please let Kim know (thanks to those who have already responded).

27th July pm, 28th July am, 29th July am, 1st August am, 3rd August am, 4th August am, 5th August am.

Biddenden Fete - Church and John Mayne School

Several members were busy on fete day supporting this village event. Hugh (in charge of hook a duck), Veronica, Kim and Sue J were very visible on the school playing field helping run the PTA stalls.
