Ladies Day – Message from Barbara and Jeannette

Invites and entry forms are going out this week for our tournament on Thursday 11th August. We will have our normal excellent raffle so Jeannette asks as you “spring clean” if you come across something suitable, please put it in one side!!

Juniors – Message from Kim – mokey.1402@gmailcom

Last year 20+ members helped out on one or more occasions to allow us to run a series of junior activities including Summer School and coaching. We are hoping to develop this in 2022. Tom Swain of Sports Route Coaching has approached us again to take part in the 2022 Summer school (2 weeks in July/August) and possibly in running some sessions for John Mayne Junior School.

I would also like to offer coaching again on say 2 Sunday mornings a month plus have some junior competitions. This can only happen with the support of members. Whether you took part last year and enjoyed it or would like to support the juniors for the first time this year, please get involved in 2022 whether it’s on a regular basis or just to take part on a few mornings/afternoons.

To help me plan and organise the activities, please can you let me know if you can help. If you want to know more about what is involved, please ask.

Bowls Big Weekend

This will be our main open day to attract new members. Our key activity will be on Sunday 29th May. Please put this in your diary as we will need a good team of volunteers to welcome our many visitors and ensure they have a good first bowls experience and hopefully join the club!!

Weald and Maidstone League Games – Message from Paul & Ralph

As most of you will know the club has 2 mixed triples teams entered in the Tuesday evening Weald League and one team in the Friday evening mens Maidstone League. We need to have good sized squads for the teams to ensure we can meet all our fixture commitments (allowing for holidays and other commitments/absences). Sign-up sheets are available on the website and will be up at the clubhouse from early April. – Your club needs you!!

Costs of travelling especially to away matches – message from Jeannette

The committee is very conscious of the impact that the escalating fuel costs will be having on members. The importance of lift sharing to away matches and contributions to the drivers will be reviewed at our next committee meeting. We don’t want anyone to feel that they must restrict their bowls activities due to the costs of travel.

Classic Trophy Bowls League at Ashford Indoor Bowls Club – message from Paul

The team have played their 5th and Final game. Whilst they lost all 5 (as anticipated) they scored points in every game against some specialist indoor players and also generated a small surplus for club funds!! Well done and thank you to all who played and to the small team of supporters who came along to cheer the players on.
