GREEN MAINTENANCE

The team have worked through the winter to ensure the green is ready for the start of the new season. As well as “one off” tasks a lot of regular activities are needed at the club, including the daily green brushing … winter and summer … We are now entering the regular mowing period when the green is mown two or three times every week right though to October. This work is undertaken by a small group of volunteers and saves the club some £2000 which would otherwise have to be spent on contractors. We all benefit as it keeps club running costs down and subscriptions lower than they might otherwise be!! More help and Volunteers always welcome.

COMPETITIONS

The closing date for the Club season long knockout competitions is 1 May. Lots of you have already entered but it’s not too late - the entry sheets are at the clubhouse or you can use the form available on the website. The entry fee is £3 per person per event and is payable before the entry closing date. The draw will be made and matches can be played from the 7 May. Please ensure every effort is made to adhere to the “play by” dates for each round. When arranging games, don’t forget to check the green diary for available times and write in your date and time. Remember that a marker MUST be arranged for singles matches.

The entry sheets for the One Day competitions will be put up at the clubhouse a few weeks in advance of the event. It is helpful if you can put your names down in advance to allow preparation for the format and draw (particularly for Pairs and Triple events) although entry can be accepted up to 09.45 on the day of the competition. These are great social events as well as being competitive bowling opportunities.

LEAGUE MATCHES start on 13th May.

More names are needed for the squads for the Tuesday evening Weald League and the Friday eveing Maidstone League. Sign up sheets are at the Clubhouse and on the website. Even if you just want to play the occasional game please do put you name up. Any questions please talk to Paul or Ralph.

FRIENDLY MATCHES start on 30th April

There are over 40 matches scheduled for this year which provide a great opportunity to socialise and gain bowling experience in a more competitive, but friendly, environment. The availability sheets are put up at the club house some 4/6 weeks ahead of the games. Details of all matches are also on the website, along with an availability form if needed. Please put your names down and look out for the selected teams some 7/14 days before the match. Denise is co-ordinating a rota and arrangements to provide the “tea`s” at the home games. Please take your turn !!

With escalating fuel prices and cost of living and to be kind to the environment it is hoped that car sharing for away matches will be the norm.
