The playing season has come and gone and winter work on the green is carrying on apace. With the cooler Autumnal weather now with us plans for the coming months are underway.

Some important Dates for your diary.

Presentation Evening – Tuesday 8th November 2022 – 7pm – Biddenden Village Hall (small hall)

Along the lines of last year this will be a Fish and Chip Supper with presentations to the competition winners and runners up as well as the Chair’s Cup. Fish and chips will be served between 7.30 and 8pm. We are planning a small raffle, some “games” and a “Shirley” surprise – so please bring along some small change! The cost will be £12.00 which will include your fish and chips (bring your own beverages of choice).

Please confirm that you will be coming and arrange payment by 27th October to allow us to pay the Fish and Chip deposit and finalise plans. (See poster for details).

Annual General Meeting – Wednesday 16th November 2022 2pm at the Club House.

Please try to come along to the AGM to have your say and vote on various issues including subscriptions for the coming season and to elect the new committee. We are trialing having the AGM in the afternoon to avoid members having to come out on a dark winters evening. We are conscious that this may be difficult for those who work and if any cannot come along for this reason arrangements can be made for them to have an absentee vote.

This meeting is so important for the future of the club so, if at all possible, please attend and have your say. The agenda and reports will be posted on the website ahead of the meeting. Nominations for key positions in the club are still needed.

Christmas Quiz – Thursday 8th December 2022 7pm to 10pm – Biddenden Village Hall

Christine and Brian will be running the quiz. More details to follow shortly but please start getting your team together. Sue J will once again be making a Christmas Cake to be raffled to raise funds with the draw to take place on the evening. (Rumour has it that Christine and Brian’s quizzes are ‘epic’!!)

Life Band Event in February 2023 – date to be confirmed. Details to follow

Classic Trophy at Ashford Indoor Bowls Club

Biddenden BC again has a team entered – as well as players, supporters will be very welcome. The games are played on Sundays starting at 9.30am and the dates for 2022 30th October and 4th December.

Short Mat Bowls

Several members play short mat bowls over the winter months at clubs including High Halden, Smarden and Bethersden. If you have never played but fancy a go contact Ralph (our short mat expert!!) for more details. As well as being a great social event short mat can also be surprisingly competitive. Despite the frustration of the block, it’s lots of fun.

The Ditch Project

As all of our bowlers know the state of the club’s ditches, green edge and the banks is poor, deteriorating and increasingly a health and safety risk. The committee has been working to progress the project to replace the ditches/banks, level and turf the green edges. This a big job and not one that our volunteer team can do. Quotes have been obtained, plans considered and grants obtained. It is hoped that the work will be done over the Winter ready for next season. Help is needed in several ways including preparatory work and to support fundraising. A full members update will be issued very shortly.

Questionnaire to find out what our members want from their bowls club

Thank you if you have already returned yours but if not, please complete the questionnaire and return to Joy at [email protected]
