13th June – Day at the green for whoever wants to come along – Our friendly match was cancelled so we thought it might be a good chance to get together - perhaps anytime between 11.30am and 4pm - could be a roll up/practice/play a knockout/coaching/drink with friends. Come along for as long as you like - you can bring a picnic lunch and suitable beverage!! We are also inviting those who came to our Bowls Big Weekend who expressed an interest in joining. Good chance to just enjoy some bowls!!

Club Competitions – UPDATE from Sue J (Competitions Secretary)

The knockout competitions are well underway with games played in the Club Championship, Biddenden Bowl, Ladies and Gents Championships. A great game yesterday saw Malcolm and Jim battle it out over 27 ends! Remember 2nd round matches should be played by 20th June. If you are struggling to fit your game(s) in there is some latitude but please let me know.

The planned dates for the ONE DAY tournaments are shown below and we invite as many players as possible to enter. All of them will reach the semi final stage on the day with all the finals played on the weekend of 4th and 5th September. You can enter by signing up on the sheets at the green or if you are not certain if you are free you can enter in the week leading up to the competition day. The entry fee is £3 per competition and this will be collected on the day. (Some of you still have competition credit from last year -I have a list!!)

Brief details are shown below but more information about each competition is on the website under Competitions/Single Day Competitions but if you have any queries, please speak to me or Jeannette or one of the committee. The more who enter the better. Games may be on a knockout basis or round robin depending on the number of entries.

The competitions normally start at 10am (need to arrive for 9.45 for the draw) and finish mid-afternoon. Bring along a picnic.

20th June – Yarkstick – Singles competition where all bowls which finish within a yard of the jack will count.

3rd July – Open Pairs – need to enter with a partner. If you don’t have one put your name up as “partner wanted” and I will try to match you up.

24th July – Drawn Pairs – All entrants will be put in one of 2 pots (experienced/inexperienced) and a name will be drawn from each.

7th August – Handicap – singles competition where players are given a handicap based on experience, previous successes, performance in the season to date.

14th August – Provisional - Drawn Triples – rearranged from 15th May. 3 pots of names for this one with a name drawn from each.

4th & 5th September – FINALS WEEKEND

5th September – approx. 4pm – Celebration BBQ

11th September – reserve finals day.

Thank You Time

Jeannette has organised the teas for all of our early friendly games doing most of the preparation, delivery and clearing up. This has been extended to supporting county knockout games and Thursday rollups again preparing teas/coffees for members and visitors. This really is “above and beyond” especially as Jeannette is longing to get back on the green to play but it is really appreciated. It won’t be long Jeannette!!

Volunteers

Again, a plea for people to help out with green/surrounds maintenance and watering. A couple of hours a week from a few more members would really help those who are already mowing, green treating, maintaining surrounds, brushing, watering, doing repairs and weeding. As the hot dry weather returns watering the green and the bank must resume. Whilst the main irrigation system will be in use on the green, spot and directed watering will be needed on the dry spot areas and the bank. Remember everything at the club (with the exception of the main hedge cutting) is done by volunteers which in turn helps us keep down our subs and other fees. Speak to Jim, Paul or Jeannette if you can help.

Bowls Big Weekend - enjoy a few pictures - Over 40 people came along to enjoy a spot of bowls!
